How to Land Fully Remote Developer Jobs That Pay 2–10x More
Most devs think remote work is about "finding remote jobs" but it's not.
Most developers are still commuting to offices for jobs that pay less than remote positions.
That makes zero sense.
In this post, I’ll share how I discovered the remote developer market, how it 10x-ed my salary over the last few years, and how you can get there too.
The Realization
I was stuck in a local job making $700/month as a developer.
After negotiating over time, I got it up to $2–3k. Still terrible pay for someone who can code.
Then I discovered the remote market.
My first remote job was with a company in Helsinki, Finland. After this change my salary more than doubled with just one decision.
After that, I found US, Canadian, and UK companies. These pay the highest rates globally.
And I haven’t worked an onsite job since 2020.
Why Remote Changes Everything
No commute. No fixed desk. No sitting in an office until 5pm even when you finished your work at noon.
Just a laptop and a backpack.
You can work from your house, a cafe, or an Airbnb if you’re traveling.
If you’re in a country where developer salaries are low, landing remote roles is a no-brainer. You get paid more for the same work, minus the soul-crushing commute.
But Here’s What Most Devs Get Wrong
They think remote work is about “finding remote jobs.”
It’s not.
It’s about becoming the type of engineer companies will pay six figures to work from anywhere.
Remote six figure roles don’t go to average devs who just implement tickets.
They go to A-players who can design and build systems from scratch. Engineers who’ve mastered the necessary skills and positioned themselves correctly.
How to Make This Happen
Step 1: Do market research
Check Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn for fully remote positions in US, UK, or other high-paying markets.
See what these companies are actually paying. You’ll realize local jobs are scamming you.
Step 2: Learn what they’re looking for
Jump on interviews with remote companies. You’ll fail the first few times because you don’t know what to expect yet.
That’s fine. Pay attention to what they’re asking.
Step 3: Fix your mindset
You can’t have imposter syndrome in these interviews. Confidence matters.
Recruiters and technical interviewers can smell self-doubt from a mile away.
Step 4: Think like a senior, not a junior
Ask business-based questions. Show you understand how to help them make more money, save infrastructure costs, or scale their systems.
That’s what generates value for the company. That’s what they pay six figures for.
Remote companies need to trust you can deliver without sitting next to them. They’re paying for impact, not hours in a chair.
The Bottom Line
If you’re still working onsite for less pay, you’re leaving money on the table.
The remote market pays more. The lifestyle is better. The opportunities are bigger.
Stop settling for local salaries when global companies are hiring.
